Myanmar in Transition: Towards Democracy and Freedom?

In the framework of the ELU course Mother-tongue based education in a Minority Context: The example of Shan villagers in Myanmar the members of the project are organizing a public seminar  in order to zoom into the political, religious and ethnic aspects in Myanmar, also known as Burma.

 

The participantsof the event have the unique opportunity to discuss  the topic of the democratic opening in Myanmar with three visiting professors from Myanmar. The event is conducted by anthropology Prof. Thidar Htwe Win, Political Sciences/IR Prof. Thidar Tun and human geography Prof. Nyo Nyo (all University of Mandalay, Myanmar), including Dr. Alexander Horstmann from School of Humanities, Tallinn University.
 

In the programme:

  • Facing Development: Traditional Social Networks in Communities in Rural Myanmar, Prof. Thidar Ttwe Win.   

  • Minimum and Maximum Positions in Negotiations of the Peace Process, Prof. Thidar Tun

  • Educational Reform in a time of transition, Prof. Nyo Nyo.

 

Schedule:

18.00-18.15 Introduction to the ELU project
18.15-19.30 Panel discussion.

 

After the panel discussion, there will be Burmese snacks offered. 

The seminar takes place on 21 November, 2018 at Tallinn University Astra building (room no A325) and all interested are more than welcome to attend the event!
